The 2026/2027 Season
This 19th season begins with a world premiere production from the mind of company member and acclaimed playwright Calamity West teaming up with director Jonathan Berry to present Engines and Instruments of Flight: A Fantasia in Three Acts by Calamity West. A script developed across the country for over a decade, "Engines" makes it's much anticipated premiere production this fall at Jackalope Theatre. The spring bring fresh classes, new play readings, and surprise performances in Jackalope's New Frontier Series. The season ends with the ever-urgent artistic responses to the year's news with the 18th Annual Living Newspaper Festival. Brave and welcoming, Season 19 brings another era of essential new plays produced at our home in the Broadway Armory Park.

Calamity West is thinking about writing a new play. A fantasia. She imagines that it's 1986, and The Playwright is writing his next play. Or, rather, struggling to write it. Or, rather, struggling to start it. After an ugly breakup with his boyfriend, The Playwright is left to face his own creative inertia as his best friends grapple with freshly-exposed feelings of romance, sexuality and heartbreak. Caught inside a maelstrom of secrets, lies and ghostly premonitions, he begins to find inspiration for his new work ... but it starts to look a little too familiar for his friends' tastes. In writing a play that might just make it big, The Playwright must untangle the conflicting responsibilities that come with being an artist and being a friend.

The Living Newspaper Festival is inspired by the 1930s Living Newspapers of the Federal Theatre Project that created stories based on recent events. This year’s Festival will include 10-minute plays inspired from recent news headlines.
