The 2022/2023 Season
Welcome back to Jackalope Theatre in the Broadway Armory Park! Season 15 begins with Among The Dead by acclaimed playwright Hansol Jung (Wolf Play, Cardboard Piano) and directed by Artistic Director Kaiser Ahmed. The 14th Annual Living Newspaper Festival returns to our stage in the spring, featuring all new not-so-short plays inspired by recent news articles. And we conclude our season with the world premiere of Pretty Shahid, by company member Omer Abbas Salem, directed by Sophiyaa Nayar – developed here at Jackalope in the 20/21 season and receiving a world premiere here in the 22/23 season.

Among the Dead is a dark comedy about a family broken apart by betrayed promises, and finding each other again through SPAM, journals, and Jesus. Mostly Jesus.

The Kazem family immigrated to Chicago from Iraq and are attempting to assimilate and live and then 9/11 happens. This romantic comedy uses classic film tropes to examine identity and which knots we choose to untie to become our ideal American.
