August 15th, 2011 After a fantastic run of the 2nd Annual Living Newspapers Festival at the Viaduct Theatre, we are returning there for our (dun du-du dun!) 4th Season! There's no better way to celebrate than with a comedy! Jackalope is proud as heck to present.... Written by Shawn Reddy September 10th - October 2nd 2011 |
February 22nd, 2011 Jackalope Theatre Presents the final show of our 2010-2011 Season Performing May 10th-June 4th in The West Stage at the Raven Theatre Complex 6157 N Clark St Directed by Artistic Director Kaiser Ahmed ****We here at Jackalope are very excited to choose this astonishingly relevant American play as the first established work to join our production repertoire. The time is "now & then." The place is "Slaughter City, USA." The story that Wallace tells is that of union brutality set in a meat packing plant, where the workers on the kill-floor are having little luck of improving their lives. With the arrival of the mysterious "Sausage Man", who urges the manager to push the workers harder, and of Cod, who sparks the organizing of the union, tensions inevitably topple over these catastrophic circumstances. The past becomes the present and the fire that burned a hundred years ago in the Triangle Shirtwaist factory burns in the here and now. Renowned playwright Naomi Wallace's graceful and poetic language provides a sharp insight into the meat industry's bloody underbelly and to these fearlessly written characters who work there.

November 2nd, 2010 Andrew Swanson writes our first blog spot on a Jackalope's adventure at Artpentry in Pilsen's Artwalk.
A handful of artists were asked to create their own interpetations of the well known painting "Freedom from Want" that had inspired Jackalope's upcoming production of "Under Contruction" To see what our artists had come up with and to read more, Visit Our Blog! |
